The Karuna Meditation Society (KMS) is a pluralistic Buddhist group that draws inspiration from the Theravada teachings of Insight (Vipassana) and Lovingkindness (Metta) meditation, the Zen teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, as well as the wisdom found in related spiritual, philosophical and scientific traditions of inquiry. KMS was founded in Vancouver, B.C. in 1984.

We seek to support each other in bringing together in our lives the qualities of compassion, joy and wisdom through our meditation practice, through our fostering of meditation and inquiry, and through our involvement in the life of the wider community.

We offer 6-week meditation and discussion courses on various topics of Buddhist teaching five times a year which are open to twelve participants. Some previous experience in Buddhist meditation is recommended. There is no cost. There is sometimes a waiting list to attend these sessions.
